Getting Physical and Crawling

Sorry, it has been a little while since the last update. Charlie has been crawling for a couple of weeks now and learning to get in to things other than his toys. Fun times are ahead. Also, he has been caught standing up in his crib, freaking out his mama. Here is a few videos of BBC in action.

5 1/2 Months - 18 pounds 12 oz - 27 in

I took Charlie in for his 5 months shots and he is topping the scales at almost 19 pounds and measuring 27 inches. They have a mirror on the wall where he is measured and he loves looking at himself and others in the mirror. I decided that it was time for a picture of his belly!!!

Saturday afternoon we went to the Christmas Tree lot and picked out our tree. We were going to get just a small tree, but we ended up with a 7 footer.

Charlie checking out all the tress (I promise his feet weren't cold).

Andy and Kevin(our next door neighbor) bringing in the tree.

Traditionally the angel should go on last, but we decided we like our dessert first.

We had to hold off on decorating because we had a holiday party at Malin's house. A traditional Swedish Christmas party with yummy meatballs and even a performance by Malin as Santa Lucia(Swedish tradition). Charlie joined the party for about 5 minutes and spent the rest of the evening sleeping like an angel. Here he is with Kumiko and Lena.

Peas Please!

Charlie is now 5 months old and is eating peas, smiling a bunch and making funny little sounds. We had a great Thanksgiving and the 4 day weekend gave me a chance to catch up. I have had several drafts ready to post over the past couple months, but just couldn't seem to get it published. I've jammed the past weeks all into one big post....enjoy!

Rock and Roll Baby
I suppose we are constantly making crazy faces at Charlie so he decided to start making them back at us. This one is my favorite... he just opens his mouth really big. This shirt is from Kelly... doesn't he look like a rocker!

Today we were playing with him and got some great pics. What a sweet baby.

HAPPY THANKSGIVINNG
We had Thanksgiving at our friend Marc and Lena's house here in San Francisco. Joining us were the Adachis (Nathan, Laura and their twin girls Sophie and Anabelle) and our friend Patrick Keel and his friend Carrie from Utah. Marc had wanted to have a low key bbq...BBQ for THANKSGIVING!! We decided against that and everyone pitched in for a traditional Thanksgiving...it was fabulous!!!

Charlie had on a fancy holiday outfit.

Storytime!
Everynight we have our little bedtime routine that ends with storytime. Amazingly enough, after I read him the book I put him in his bed and kiss him good night and leave the room...he goes right to sleep!!!! The first time it happened, it was the biggest miracle I had seen since he had been born. For weeks we spend hours trying to get him to sleep. He still might wake up once during the night, but is mostly sleeping from about 7:30pm - 6am. Well, daylight savings did get us off a bit and now he wants to be up at 5am, but we are getting back on track.

Month 5
1....2.....3...jump jump jump jump - Charlie lives to jump. Just like the bouncy chair, he can't get enough. He really catches air!

My friend (and former boss) Mike and his wife Margot came by to meet Charlie. Mike had a business trip in Austin and got Charlie these Texas slippers. He said that he looked everywhere for some A&M slippers but couldn't find any...go figure!

At about 4 1/2 months Charlie's nanny, Marian, said that she just couldn't give him enough to eat. I got some rice cereal and gave it a try. Charlie liked it! He loves to eat and is so cute.

When I get home from work, I like to lay on the floor with Charlie to play. He hams it up!

Month 4
Every year the Blue Angels some to San Francisco for a spectacular Air Show. Tesla gave me some VIP tickets so we had awesome seats and our friend Malin joined us for a beautiful day in the city. Charlie didn't really know what to think.

Charlie can sit up supported so we decided to get out his new toy and he really likes it. So much to look at!!!

Our neighborhood has a Haloween festival every year so we dressed Charlie up and checked it out. He was such a cute little monkey!!!

We had our 2nd trip to Texas. Andy was in a wedding in Austin so it was a great excuse to meet sweet baby Jude! We had a great time with Paul and Candi....wow....how things were different the last time we all hung out pre-babies! Fun times!!!!

Week 15 - Back to Work 1st Concert

Each day Charlie is discovering new things and his little personality is starting to show! I really took advantage of my last days on maternity leave playing with little baby Charlie every waking hour. He likes to sit up in his bumbo or high chair and trys to grab onto his rattles and toys. He hasn't quite mastered his technique, but occasionally he will get a good grip and whatever he gets a hold of he puts in his mouth. Yep, I suppose you can call it "teething", but without the teeth. He has started drooling a bunch so we have pulled out the bibs. His fussiness/colic has subsided so life is better (for everyone). We have also deduced that warm room = sleeping through the night. Each time he has slept for 8 hours straight it has either been in Texas or we have had a heat wave in California. Mommy will order a heater for his room pronto!

I started back to work on Friday which went really well. I was really happy to see Charlie when I got home.

Marme and Papa came in town this weekend for the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival. Charlie went to his first concert! We saw some of our Texas favs, Jerry Jeff Walker and Robert Earl Keen. It was just a couple of miles from our house in Golden Gate Park.

LBC - Photos by Jenny

My friend Jenny took some beautiful photos of Charlie while we were in Texas.  Below are just a few and here is a link to the snapfish album.  Thank you Jenny.  I am in love with these photos.

This hat was worn by Andy's dad when he was a baby.

This cute little outfit was a gift from Elizabeth.  In this pic, Charlie can't get enough of his feet.

These overalls were a gift from Marme.

Charlie is an infant bathtub that belonged to my granny.

Week 10- 14 Charlie's Adventures

It has been several weeks since we posted and boy have we been busy. Charlie has seen the ocean, mountains and Texas! He has definitely been growing and now tops the scale at almost 15 pounds. His latest "thing" is looking at his feet. He just can't get enough of 'em. Mom and dad are getting a little more rest these days now that Charlie sleeps about 10 hours at night...well, he still wakes up for a middle of the night feeding, but all in all the Lyon family is seeing more sleep. I start back to work on Friday so we are all feeling a little nervous about next week. I will always remember these 14 weeks in which my life completely changed and everyday offered a new advedture with LBC. I never knew I could love someone so very much. Andy and I are so happy to have our little family :)

Here is a pic of me and my dad ... don't you think Charlie looks like me...crazy!

I have uploaded all of our photos from the past several months to a snapfish album:

Week 14 - Texas

Charlie loved Texas! He was so good on the airplane, sleeping most of the way. We had an exciting time introducing Charlie to all of his Texas family and friends. We have already decided that when Charlie gets old enough we will be sending him to Camp Nac where he will rotate between our relatives houses!!! I have lots of pics below and wish I had more of my cousins and fam meeting LBC, but during that visit he was a little fussy. My little cousin Shelby who is in the 6th grade was so cute holding Charlie while he screamed ... she too was a colicky baby :)
Family photo at the Lyon's farm where Andy and I got married. Uncle Milford took Charlie for a tour and showed Charlie where it all began.

Charlie with Granny (Charlene Kraemer, my mom's mom. This is who he is named after)

Charlie visits Granny (Novelle Odem, Andy's dad's mom). She also gave Charlie a cute hat that was Andy's dad's when he was a baby that was made by Charlie's great great great grandmother (wow!). We had a mini photo shoot with Jenny while in Nac so you will see some cute pics soon with Charlie in the hat!

My sister Kim and niece Andi play with Charlie. They would use the carrier to calm him down during his crying spells. Kim would bounce around the house and Andi would do squats.

Our friends Brad and Kandi had a little girl Addisyn just 10 days before Charlie. Brad and Andy have been friends since they were little kids so it was really awesome to see these two introducing their little ones to each other.

Andy shows Charlie the Longhorns and explains to him that he will be going to college in Austin, TX where their school mascot is the same animal.

Andy has been into homebrewing for a bit now and inspired my dad to grow hops. My dad and grandpa have both planted some in their gardens. The pic below is me showing Charlie the hops growing at Grandpa Hibbard's house. Andy said that this picture has his 3 favorite things....me, Charlie and hops. Now wait....if we had a bike in this pic then it would be Andy's heaven.

Marme has a studio where she teaches pottery classes. We visited her class and took a look at her pottery which is beautiful.

We visited my mom's sewing group SNAILS (Smart, Neat And Intelligent Ladies that Sew). He had fun meeting all of Gram's friends.
Bathtime at Gram's house. Charlie finally learned to play during bathtime. He just couldn't get enough kicking. No matter how long we left him in there he cried and cried as we took him out.

Charlie with his Marme and Papa just staring at his feet. In this pic he is trying really hard to grab it and since we have been home he finally was able to get a hold of 'em.

My last night in town I went out on the town with my sister and her friends while Charlie stayed with Gram and Granny. Charlie had to meet all the gals when Gram dropped me off at the bar :) Here he is below with Carmen, Shelby (birthday girl), my sister and Beth. OK girls the HARVEST picture of Shelby didn't make the blog...lets just say we had a good time at Flashback.

Week 13 - Tahoe

The family packed up for a weekend in Tahoe. We road the gondola up to mid-mountain and hung out while Andy road his bike. Unfortunatly, daddy took a little spill and scratched himself up pretty good.

Phil stopped by to get some bike stuff and got a chance to hold Charlie. For those of you that don't know...Phil runs a bike company called rideSFO and yes, we have a rideSFO sticker on our stroller and Charlie also has a rideSFO onesie :)

Charlie on the gondola. His eyes got so big as we went up!

Charlie sat in my lap forever just watching all the bike riders. I had never seen him sit so still for so long.

Week 12 - Diapers, clothes, and sitting up.

We have moved up to size 2 diapers and to 3-6 months clothes. Charlie now can sit in his bumbo chair and has discovered TV. He has also started getting a little louder with his little baby noises...too cute!

Watching football with daddy.

Enjoying playtime after his bath.

Sitting happy in his Bumbo.

Week 11 - Texas Visitors

Marme, Papa, Nana, Uncle Kent, Aunt Celli, Uncle Milford and Aunt Megan came to visit. We had fun touring around San Francisco. Charlie also had his first babysitter when Malin watched him for the evening...THANK YOU MALIN....while the rest of us went out for dinner. I think Charlie cried for about two hours straight while Malin did everything she could to soothe him, but she successfully got him sound asleep in his crib.

Everyone got their turn at holding and playing with Charlie...even while he was screaming crying. He was the happiest when we were in the stroller and in the car...he likes to be moving!!! We also went to the De Young Museum to a Dale Chihuly exhibit. Charlie LOVED IT!!! All the colors and lights...it was BEAUTIFUL.

Papa lulls Charlie to sleep on Haight Street while mama is shopping :)

Our friends Tim and Pilar who live in Portland had their first son Jaden just shortly after Charlie. They were in town for a wedding so we got to meet up for a brief playdate. Jaden and Charlie were too cute kicking away :)

Week 10 - Avila Beach

Andy had a business trip in Avila beach so Charlie and I packed up and tagged along.

Charlie enjoyed sticking his feet in the sand.
